Jewelweed Spritz
Jewelweed Spritz
Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) is an antidote to poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. Spray it on the skin before or following contact with these toxic plants to prevent a rash, or apply to rashes to reduce itching and inflammation.
How it works: The constituent lawsone binds to the same molecular sites on the skin as urushiol, the oil on poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac. If applied soon after exposure, lawsone beats urushiol to the sites, in effect blocking it so you don’t get a rash (Duke).
Other uses: Nettle sting, fungal infections of the skin, e.g. athletes foot and ringworm (anti-fungal).

I harvested the jewelweed in this product from an abundant population growing in a wild, clean site. I took 2 to 3 plants from several stands of jewelweed, probably less than 1% of each stand.
