Bidens Tincture

Bidens is an invaluable remedy for the home apothecary. As a tonic, they are a wonder for the urinary tract, and they also offer a true herbal alternative to antibiotics for systemic and localized infections. Bidens have a tonic astringent quality that targets the urinary tract, helping to tighten lax tissue, which can help to improve leakiness or incontinence with regular use. Bidens also help to soothe general urinary inflammation.

Bidens is also the only herb I know to be strong enough to curb an acute infection that would otherwise require a prescription for antibiotics. While some infections may not respond to this therapy, I have personally seen infections respond to Bidens that did not respond to other herbal therapies and would have otherwise needed antibiotics. I thank my lucky stars for this herb! They taste surprisingly palatable for such a powerful herb, subtly sweet, not a very bitter herb. 

Using Bidens to fight bacterial infections requires a lot of tincture. Taking Bidens at our recommended acute dosage of 5 mL 6x/day requires an ounce of tincture per day, so one would want 6 ounces of tincture to maintain a high dose regimen for 6 days. If you are not local to Durham, NC, I would not recommend ordering this for an infection that has already reached the point of needing medical care. If you suspect you may be heading in that direction but your infection is not at the point of requiring medical care, then we may be able to get you this tincture in a timely manner. SUGGESTED USE // Chronic conditions, i.e. inflammation of urinary tract, incontinence, benign prostatic hyperplasia: Take 2 mL diluted in water 2-4x/day. Acute bacterial infections, i.e. staph, abscess, vaginitis, UTI, strep throat: Take 5 mL 6x/day. Continue for a day or so after infection clears and taper doses. Higher doses may be taken under direction of a health provider. If infection continues to worsen after 24 hours of use seek medical care immediately. Use topically on infected wounds. Beware of the possibility of allergy to aster family plants. Information is not available on the safety of this herb during pregnancy and lactation. Consult a qualified health practitioner before taking this extract, especially if pregnant or nursing.

One ounce contains 15 2-mL servings. Taken at 2 mL 2x/day, one ounce will last about a week. This standard dosage is for a 150 pound adult and may be adjusted in proportion to the weight of the user. For instance, a 30 pound child would take 1/5 of the 2 mL dose, or 2/5 mL, about half a dropperful. We are happy to help determine the dosage.
